Persistent | Customer case
Goal is to reduce the number of customer defects
by 60% with help of CodeScene
Persistent has deployed CodeScene for their customer, a Global Mobile Computing Company,
on GCP VMs to support product sustenance and modernization. CodeScene's Code Health metrics and visualizations
enable a transparent baseline for code health, enabling developers to identify issues, prioritize urgent areas,
and formulate sprint-based action plans to address technical debt. CodeScene is also used for new application development
to monitor code health from the outset and proactively prevent any future technical debt accumulating.
The goal is a 60% reduction in customer defects by the end of FY25.
Challenges
Synergy across multiple products and optimize use of technology to reduce costs and improving stability
Solutions
Persistent has deployed CodeScene licenses on customer-provisioned GCP VMs, onboarding 11 million lines of code across products to establish engineering metrics and prepare remediation action plans.
Outcomes
CodeScene metrics help developers identify issues and prioritize urgent code areas, enabling action plans to address technical debt while supporting new application development to reduce customer defects by 60% by FY25.
Challenges
The client has 2 key products which bring in 80% of the revenue and have acquired a company which needs to be integrated into the products roadmap. Customer is seeking to bring synergy across multiple products and optimize use of technology to reduce costs and improving stability.
The 2 business-critical products have accumulated technical debt over last 15 years and are leading to increased customer defects and drop in satisfaction scores. For transforming and modernizing these products, client has decided to partner with Persistent given their expertise in product development.
Solutions
Persistent has deployed CodeScene licenses on customer provisioned GCP VMs.
Codebases for both the products totaling 11 Mn lines of code onboarded to CodeScene to baseline the engineering metrics (technical debt, code health, hotspots) and preparing action plan for remediations.
Both the customer and Persistent architects have deep insights into current technical debt, code quality and security vulnerabilities. Correlation between the customer tickets being reported and the code insights was done to prioritize the action plan in remediating code issues and defects fixing.
Outcomes
Customer and Persistent teams have a transparent baseline for code health across the products .
CodeScene metrics is helping developers to identify the issues, identify the priority areas of the code which need immediate attention and create sprint wise action plan to pay back the accumulated technical debt over time.
Customer is leveraging CodeScene for new application development to monitor and track the code health from beginning and avoid accumulating technical debt. Goal is to reduce the number of customer defects by 60% through end of FY25.
“Codescene is helping our developers clearly understand which technical debt needs to be prioritised and how it needs to be remediated. Having the Codescene extension available within IDE is helping developers know what the code health score is and as they are making changes, they are able to do code review and remediate the code right their. This shift left approach helps accelerate developer productivity and pay back the accumulated technical debt.”

"I Have been working with Codescene as our partner for software engineering for more than 3 years now. I love how easy it is to deploy CodeScene and get detailed insights into the technical debt, developers contributions and the delivery metrics. Soft insights into knowledge management and developers view are very important aspects of software engineering and something which gets ignored mostly. CodeScene brings these out very clearly for everyone to review and put an action plan."
